Finishing first Project

I am, for all intent and purpose, finished my first project. Similar to my Masters thesis, which i realise I have neither covered nor put up for Download here, this project was a custom plugin for the DICOM Viewer Osirix. This time it involved the addition of image filters to the applications UI. The project itself makes use of Core Image Filters which are available in cocoa development. The main issue of the development comes from combining a DICOM image viewer and a Viewer which allows for these filters to be applied. Like every other concievable problem The answer seemed to be easy but the planned solution didnt seem to quite workout. In the end the final project involved some simple OpenGL, make that VERY simple OpenGl, an animated split view, some additions by way of category to existing classes, and a possibly over complicated save mechanic that wouldnt play nice.

All in all I am happy with the result which I will be Posting here at some point in the future, and with that finished I find myself with some questions. The greatest of these being what to do next. The good Mr Teoiny O Connell has in his position a brand new desktop which I would very much like to see. Now that I have the free time I should be able to go visit him. There is always work at the opticians but I think I need to get out of there sooner rather than later. Of course I could always go hunting for the next project Straight away and while I am waiting there is the xna game I am planning to develop. For now I shall Attach a build of the ImagEdit plugin for Osirix. Feel free to try it out but remember it is designed for use with DICOM sets made up of JPG Images.

UPDATE: I will have to wait until I get home to upload the various files because the upload wont work from here. Sorry to disappoint anyone dying to get their hands on the application but go play with Osirix for a few hours and see how that goes.

Merry Christmas. Hope you are having a goodtime and not wasting too much of your christmas day reading this. It has been a while since I have updated this but not to worry, I havent had much to say but there is some news so I might just update this properly in the next month or so.

Well i havent graduated but the thesis is finished and I have left the country. On holiday, not permenantly. The projects website is up at Wiisualisation. The site covers the whole development of the project which also included learning Objective C. That was tough, never even looked at it before but it all worked out in the end. Had to have a look at developing a plugin for an application where there was no API and no access to the existing classes.

Also Halloween happened. I went as the hulk but i wasnt green enough I am afraid. The photos are on Flickr If you want to have a look. But now i must start drinking all the mountain dew and eating all the donuts.

Smart eh? So i finally got around to organising this. Been on my mind for quite some time and now its gonna happen. 70 to 100 people, 24 Hours loads of games. How can you loose. I’ll tell you how. Be the guy organising it. Dont think i will have much time to play myself but i am doing it for the fun and the love of playing game. God knows its not for the money.

Anyway, the site has gone live. CorkLAN.com. Now i do use live in the widest possible sense. It is entirely devoid of content and the registration system is broken but its something. I am picking up the flyers tomorrow and the advertising is gonna start in earnest. First place is midLANs.net. Its a bigger and more established event and its on this weekend. That means a chance to get a good look at the network and what they have on offer. Its running for the full 48 hours. Unfortunately i wont be able to go to the whole thing. Gotta be back here on saturday. I’ll try catch some sleep before driving back but it should be an excellent night.

And the reason I am cutting my fun little trip short is… Simon is coming home. He will be with us for 10 days before jetting off again and just heard that his flight will be 9 hours delayed in hong kong so forget about playing much on saturday. Still though It will be good to see him again.

And thats about it. Still plodding away at the project. At least i have something working, Kind of anyway. I have to throw a few extra little things in there. Once its finished though I think i will be putting up the story online for any poor sap that wants to read the whole thing.

Busy Busy Busy

So its been a while since the last post and this is my fast post to give as many excuses as i can as fast as i can. Thank you Zapp Brannigan. So here it goes.

First I have been oh so busy writing stuff up for my project and have a healthy blog going for it. No you cant see it and i know how much you really want to but the answer is still no. Well actually the answer is maybe later when i am all done i will make it publically accessible so the worldcan understand my fury.

Second excuse is the site has been having a few issues. Just one or two though. Seems I had an old forum lweft running and its was getting a tad outta hand. Sorry to anyione who was using it but to be honest i am pretty sure all the posts were just spam. If you would like a new forum in which to play please leave a comment and i will be appy to oblige. Though this time i might just try and keep an eye on things.

Third excuse is Games. I got rockband and it is excellent. I am truly loving it. I am even buying songs. Got into the hall of fame in the world tour mode and now its time for the long slog to get at the endless setlist. 58 songs and know break, I better get a real life medal for that. I am also still not finished GTA4. I never get the chance to just sit down and play it. I am about 20 hours in and At this stage i kinda just want to be done with it. I might do a review of both of these games at some stage for kicks.

Fourth one is kinda related to the third. The PSN. I love my PS3 but I have to admit it falls short as a games machine. That said the PSN game are far and away better than most of the drivel on the live arcade.there were two recently that i got purely on the originality of their ideas. Echochrome and elefunk. I am too stupid for echchrome though and I am in no way an engineer. Still having great fun with both though. Now Pixel Junk Eden has just come out too so I gotta give that a whirl. Supposed to be great as a multiplayer game, all i need are some friends [SAD FACE].

So to make up for this i am going to play around with the sites layout. I am also doing this because Theses Saturdays at work with no testing are a killer.

UPDATE: Yeah, thats not going to happen actually. I am feeling a bit lazy and the quick switch caused the comments to break. Sorry. I’ll think about it thoug and make a less half assed attempt another time

MSc Project Started and Mr Foott Got a new Toy

So i have started on my project properly now. Working on some interface stuff. I am gonna be using the Wiimote to control some 3D models hopefully. Its all being developed on a Mac so I gotta get up off my ass and start learning Cocoa and Objective-C. They really dont look too bad and XCode is doing a pretty bang up job of handling the whole development side so no real complaints outta me … yet, trust me they will be a coming. These control structures arent too bad but everything i have been looking at has criminaly poor commenting. I think it might just take a little longer to learn all the syntax and figure out just how i will get this whole thing done. Still at least i have started and i am familiarising myself with the task, i set a goal of having something running 2 weeks from now and we will see how that goal is holding up this Friday/Saturday.

In a completly seperate topic of which nobody will be interested in Mr Foott finally got himself a car to be truly proud of and may i say it is fair pretty. I took a few picks with my Phone, tried to put its camera to the test and its didnt do too bad. The pictures are after the break and the few i had a bit of a play with using the simple filters in photoshop are in my flicker photostream or just use the photos link above and wander on to the “Stuff” folder. Use whichever and hopefully pass some of your day. The original photos are in a gallery after the break.

Diablo 3 Announced

Well i didnt get to go to the Blizzard invitational but i can do my best to keep track of what they are announcing and hurrah for us its Diablo 3. I am fricking delighted. That makes 2 Blizzard products i am dying to get my hands on. Starcraft 2 which i believe is due this October but i will have to check up on that one and now Diablo 3 has me excited all over again. Go blizzard and excellent work on the whole working the internet into a frenzy with the ever progressing splash screen. Have a look at the official for some excellent videos and artwork along with the details of what the game will be offering

I hope I’m not late. I am after getting well confused and even if I’m not late time is running out sharpish. The Mozilla Foundation is going for the most Downloads in 24 hours and its nearing the end. I just had a quick look at the home page and Ireland is at just over 20,000. Lets see if we can bring that up a bit. So go to the Headquarters and do your bit for a great browser. While you are there you can also pick up a certificate to say you got involved and hang it prominently on the wall of you choice. Now stop reading and GO GO GO.
